Therapy FAQs: Your Questions Answered

Have questions about therapy? Take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out!

  • Our office is located in Pleasanton, California at the intersection of Hopyard and West Las Positas Boulevard. We offer virtual sessions throughout California.

  • Sessions are 50 minutes long. We can discuss longer sessions times with a prorated fee if appropriate.

  • We generally recommend weekly sessions at the beginning of treatment. This allows for us to establish a therapeutic relationship while building goals and creating change quickly. We can always discuss other options as we work together.

  • In the first session, your therapist will briefly review the information in the forms you signed, including confidentiality, what to expect in therapy, and review any questions you may have. Then you’ll have the floor to share as much about yourself as you feel comfortable with. This will be your first opportunity to share your story and what is important to you. With about ten minutes of session left, your therapist will discuss goals and explore what successful therapy would look like to you.

  • Don’t worry! We don’t have to dive into your deepest secrets right away. We will spend time getting to know each other and exploring different interests in your life.

  • While we do not accept insurance, we can provide a superbill you can use to request reimbursement.

  • Diagnoses have become a big part of the conversation around mental health, and it’s completely normal to feel curious about getting a name for what you’re experiencing, just as it’s normal to worry about being labeled. In some cases, a diagnosis is needed for insurance or billing purposes, depending on your plan and what it covers.

Our approach is simple: we don’t lead with labels. While diagnoses can be useful for understanding symptoms and creating a treatment plan, they are not required for therapy to be meaningful or effective. Our focus is always on your lived experience, your goals, and what will support you best, not on fitting you into a category.

  • We hold your appointment spot for you and have a 48 hour cancellation policy. We understand that life happens and sometimes we don’t always have 48 hours notice, so we try to offer one grace fee waive. No shows or sessions cancelled within the 48 hour window will be charged the full session fee.
