Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about therapy? Take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out!
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes long. We can discuss longer sessions times with a prorated fee if appropriate.
How often do we meet?
We generally recommend weekly sessions at the beginning of treatment. This allows for us to establish a therapeutic relationship while building goals and creating change quickly. We can always discuss other options as we work together.
What happens in the first session?
In the first session, your therapist will briefly review the information in the forms you signed, including confidentiality, what to expect in therapy, and review any questions you may have. Then you’ll have the floor to share as much about yourself as you feel comfortable with. This will be your first opportunity to share your story and what is important to you. With about ten minutes of session left, your therapist will discuss goals and explore what successful therapy would look like to you.
What if I don’t know what to talk about?
Don’t worry! We don’t have to dive into your deepest secrets right away. We will spend time getting to know each other and exploring different interests in your life.
Do you accept insurance?
While we do not accept insurance at this time, we can provide a superbill you can use to request reimbursement.
Are you going to diagnose me?
Diagnoses have become a hot topic in our worlds and are shared much more openly than ever before. It is normal to want a name for what you may be experiencing, just as it is normal to fear being labeled. Sometimes diagnoses are given for billing/insurance purposes – some insurances will cover specific reasons for therapy, other insurances cover a specific amount of sessions, etc. Our perspective is that diagnoses can be helpful for understanding symptoms and establishing a treatment plan, but are not required for therapy to be effective.
What if I need to cancel?
We hold your appointment spot for you and have a 48 hour cancellation policy. We understand that life happens and sometimes we don’t always have 48 hours notice, so we try to offer one grace fee waive. No shows or sessions cancelled within the 48 hour window will be charged the full session fee.
